Classic pique polos (around 200-220gsm) are the workhorse – breathable, structured, and they take embroidery beautifully. Soft-touch cotton blends feel a touch more premium for retail and brand roles. If your team’s active or on warm shifts, moisture-wicking performance polos pull sweat away and dry fast. Sizing runs the full range, so the fit’s right whether someone’s a small or a 5XL.
Choosing a work polo
Three things decide whether a polo works as uniform: fabric, weight and collar construction.
Pique is the classic polo fabric, with the textured knit surface. It breathes well, hides creases, and takes embroidery cleanly. It is the default for good reason.
Cotton feels better and looks better for the first few months. It also shrinks more and holds damp, so it suits customer-facing indoor roles more than physical outdoor work.
Performance and poly-cotton blends wick moisture and dry fast, which matters for anyone active or outdoors. They resist creasing and survive commercial laundry better than pure cotton. The trade-off is that they can feel synthetic, and cheaper versions hold odour.
On weight, 200-220gsm is the working standard for uniform. Lighter than that and the collar rolls after a few washes, which is the single most common complaint we hear about branded polos.
Collars matter more than people expect
A polo lives or dies by whether the collar still stands up after three months. Look for a ribbed knitted collar rather than a cut-and-sewn one, and check for a taped neck seam - it costs a little more and it is the difference between a polo that still looks smart in spring and one that gets replaced.
Embroidery or print on a polo
Embroidery, almost always. Polos are the garment where embroidery looks best - the pique surface holds the stitch well, and a left chest logo on a polo is the most professional-looking branded garment we sell. Print makes sense only for large designs or where the fabric is a technical performance material that embroidery would pucker.
