Embroidering a logo onto a beanie

Beanies are knitted rather than woven, which changes what works. The fabric stretches, so fine detail and thin lettering distort where they would sit cleanly on a polo. As a rule, anything under about 4mm of stitched height loses definition on a knit.

What this means in practice: simplify. A logo that works at 60mm wide on a fleece often needs its strapline dropped for a beanie. We will tell you honestly if yours needs adjusting rather than stitching it and hoping. A direct-embroidered logo on a cuffed beanie normally sits on the cuff itself, which is the flattest and most stable area and keeps the logo readable when the hat is worn.

Woven patch as an alternative

For detailed logos, a woven or leather patch applied to the cuff carries far more detail than direct stitching and gives a more premium finish. It costs a little more per unit and suits smaller, higher-value orders - customer gifts, client teams, anything where the hat is meant to look like a product rather than a uniform.

Styles

Cuffed beanies are the standard and the best surface for a logo. Rolled or fisherman styles sit shorter on the head and are currently more fashionable, though the usable branding area is smaller. Thinsulate-lined beanies are worth the extra for genuinely cold outdoor work - groundworks, yard work, winter site work. Reflective and hi-vis beanies exist for teams working near traffic, though they supplement certified hi-vis rather than replace it.

Thread colour matching

We can match thread to your brand colours. Embroidery thread ranges do not map exactly onto Pantone references, so what you get is the closest available match rather than an exact one. On a dark beanie, be aware that a mid-tone thread will read darker than it does on paper. We will send a stitch-out for approval on larger orders so there are no surprises.

Minimum order and turnaround

One hat is fine. The embroidery setup is a one-off charge, so a single beanie costs more per unit than fifty, but we will do it. Standard turnaround is 7 to 10 working days from artwork approval. Order autumn stock in September rather than November - December is when everyone else remembers.
